Module Description

Writing towards the end of the 20th century, Ted Hughes spoke of T.S. Eliot as not only “one of the truly great poets” – “the poet of our times” in fact – but also as “a supreme spiritual master”. Not everyone will agree with such astonishing claims but, whether agreeing or disagreeing, let us seize the opportunity, for the space of a few hours, to listen again to the poems, and allow ourselves to be quickened and challenged by their unique genius.

Paul Murray OP: is an Irish Dominican friar and poet. He lives in Rome where he teaches the literature of the mystical tradition. He has written several books, among them: The New Wine of Dominican Spirituality: A Drink Called Happiness; Scars: Essays, Poems, and Meditations on Affliction; God’s Spies: Michelangelo, Shakespeare, and Other Poets of Vision. Later this year he will publish a new book of poems, Moling in Meditation: A Psalter for an Early Irish Monk.
