Module Description

Salvation (= what happened for us in Jesus’ death and resurrection) lies at the heart of our lives as Christians. And yet…the inherited tradition (redemption and atonement) no longer really works. This crisis is triggered by developments in evolutionary science, theology and society. We badly need a contemporary understanding and a language that will speak both to ourselves and our contemporaries. The understanding of salvation as healing, service and love in John’s Gospel is a great place to start.

Kieran O’Mahony OSA is an Augustinian friar and a biblical scholar, with particular interest in the letters of St Paul and the Gospel according to John. He taught for many years in the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy (Dublin). Currently, he is publishing a 9-volume series called “Hearers of the Word” on the readings for Advent, Lent and Eastertide. With Jessie Rogers and Seán Goan he is on the team of the newly formed Tarsus Scripture School. For more information visit www.tarsus.ie.
