OM 3: Jesus and Prayer – Reading the Psalms as a Christian
BA, BD, LSS is a teacher and Scripture scholar who has been involved in adult faith development for many years. He has given courses on biblical themes and spirituality in a variety of locations around the country. He has also written commentaries on the Sunday readings for readers in Church.
When seeking to understand the meaning of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, the early Church devoted much time to reflecting on the Psalms. The prayer book of the people of Israel offers Christians today a rich source for deepening our
understanding of the mind of Jesus as he undertook his ministry of proclaiming the Reign of God. It also nourishes our own faith life as we pray the prayers that were formative for him. In this module, we shall consider the background to the book of Psalms and then take time to study a number of these prayers with a view to exploring how they might assist us in praying as Jesus prayed.
Recorded talks will be available from 25 September 2020. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, 14 October 2020 at 7.30pm.
