Finding the Christ Child: Advent, Adoration and Art
Join us for a special Advent event, taking a deep dive into the Gospel accounts (the Infancy Narratives) of the birth of Jesus in Matthew and Luke. We will turn then to explore some beautiful masterpieces from the Dutch Golden Age (and beyond) and how these artists interpreted these Scriptures in paint. What themes do these artists pick up on, how do they represent the different characters (the holy family, the magi, the shepherds), what symbols do they use, do they merge the two different Gospel accounts into one painting? These are all some of the aspects of the beloved scripture texts and biblical paintings that we will explore.
